Real Love: Tosha’s Testimony

The following is the testimony of a former coworker of mine.

Hello, my name is Tosha, and I used to work with Mr. Marques many years ago. I pray that my testimony will inspire somebody to get to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

I was raised in a Christian family, from an early age. Bible Study on Wednesday nights, Choir Rehearsal on Thursday nights, Sunday School and church service(sometimes 2-3 services) on Sundays. I was in the church, however I did not have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

During my teen years, I played the game, and I played it well. When I was around the saints, I could quote the scriptures probably just as good as the Pastor, deacons, and church mothers; And I had the meek, little church girl act downpack, so well I could have won an Emmy Award. But when I was around my school friends, I drank, I cussed, and flirted with the fellas. Even in spite of my hypocritical ways, God found various ways to keep me from landing into a situation, during my high school years, where I would start having sex.

After graduating high school, I enrolled in the local community college, got a waitressing job, and moved into an apartment with my best friend. It was at this point that I began cutting church activities out of my life, and started fully embracing the ways of the world.

I began to party hard every chance I got, became addicted to pornography, and started messing around with both men and women. Satan really had my mind screwed up. Yet even in the midst of my rebellion, God would have my parents or a random person speak a few words to me to let me know that I was headed in the wrong direction.

Ultimately, my pursuit of the firey passion that I saw on my computer screen and heard in the Hip/Hop songs I listened to, led me into a relationship with a very handsome man, with a pocket full of money. This guy promised me all of the material things I desired and real love. My mama met the guy, for the first time, and did her best to warn me that the Holy Spirit had given her discernment that this guy was not what he seemed to be, however I was determined to do what I wanted to do, so I moved into a home with this guy.

Everything was great for about the first five months, then I found out that I was pregnant. I was happy, he was not. He wanted me to get an abortion, and I refused. He never put his hands on me while I was carrying our child, but he did put me through a lot of verbal abuse; And I found out that he was cheating on me with a girl that I considered a friend. A few days, after I had my child, the guy and I had a physical altercation, that landed him in jail and me in the hospital. So I ended the relationship.

My need to land a job that would support both my daughter and I brought me to a Customer Service job at a Call Center, where I met three Christians, whose character would have a profound impact on my life. Each day on my lunch break, I’d find myself sitting at a table inn the breakroom, listening to Mr. Marques and a lady named, Ms. Joni, speak words of Godly encouragement and wisdom to anyone who needed it. Even though I would not always take heed to it, I would occasionally seek them out for advice.

The turningpoint began when some of my personal habits began to negatively impact my job performance. My supervisor had often told me that she saw great potential in me, if I’d only make some life changes. Even with a reliable Customer Service job, Satan still had me messed up. The Wicked One planted aspirations of becoming a stripper into my mind, as a way for me to make bigger bucks(but I never actually acted on this path). Anyway, my Call Center supervisor would always tell me that if I truly took some pride in my self-worth, then I could become a supervisor and then quite possibly a high-level manager within the company.

One day, I was summoned to the office of the Operations Manager of the project I worked on. It was well known that the OM was a Christian, and spoke with great Godly conviction. She let me know that my Call Quality was outstanding, I was highly thought of by my coworkers, HOWEVER I was in jeopardy of being fired for violating the attendance policy and having too many logoffs whenever I was at work. I told her that I didn’t care..And then she asked me two questions that for some reason shook me to my core. The OM asked me, “What do you care about? What is the most important thing in your life?” I responded that I cared about my daughter, and that she was the most important thing in my life. The Ops Manager sternly but lovingly asked, “How can you say that your daughter is the most important thing in your life when you are not setting a good example for her?” It was at this point that the full weight of all of my bad decisions fell upon me, and I burst into tears. The Manager comforted me, and assured me that it wasn’t too late for me to choose to make the necessary changes in my life.

That very night, after tucking my daughter into bed, I sat on my couch and had a talk with God. I told Him that I was ashamed of the bad choices I’d made, I told Him that I knew He’d been trying to get my attention for a long time but I kept right on running, I told Him that I wanted to set a good example for my little girl; And then I began to cry. And then these words echoed in my mind, “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” I admitted that I’d been hungry and thirsty for love. Right there in my living room, I asked Jesus to come into my heart and save me…And then I called my parents on the phone and told them the good news.

The next day, Mr. Marques, Ms. Joni, and the Ops Manager rejoiced when I told them I’d gotten saved. I and my daughter began attending Bible Study and Sunday morning church services. The Holy Spirit led me to stop associating with those old friends, who were living an ungodly lifestyle. God brought new friends into my life, who loved God and wanted to see me grow spiritually. As my love for God grew, so did my hope to create a better life for my daughter. No longer was I interested in being a stripper, but I went back to school and got a degree in Accounting. I did eventually got a Supervisor position at the Call Center; And stayed there until God opened the door for me to land a job at a bank.

I’ll be honest with you, and tell you that:
• Those ungodly friends did show back up again to try to lure me back to that old ungodly lifestyle. When I told them I was staying with Jesus and attempted to share the Gospel with them, they called me everything but a child of God…
But that’s Ok. I’ve found Real Love now.
• When he saw the positive things God was doing in my life, my child’s father did show back up again, and wanted to try to get with me again. He had no interest in serving God, so I had no interest in reconciling with him…but that’s Ok. I’ve found Real Love now.

I did a lot of bad stuff from my teens until my late twenties. I was looking for love in all the wrong places, and if the devil had his way about it, I’d have gone to a burning Hell before age thirty…BUT GOD, with His merciful and loving self, saw fit to spare my life and put some good people in my path to speak words of encouragement and faith over my life.

You won’t find Real love in material things, people will promise to love you, but some people lie, while others love with limitations…But if you want unconditional love, If you want love without limits, The fact that Jesus Christ, the Perfect One, went to the cross to redeem a wretched sinner like you and I…Now that’s Real Love.

• I thank Mr. Marques for posting my testimony here.
• I thank you for taking the time to read this testimony, and I pray that it touched someone’s heart.
• Most of all, I Thank God for saving me.

If you have read Tosha’s testimony, and do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, I would like to extend this invitation to you to receive the gift of salvation today. You can do so by praying and truly believing the prayer below, or by praying to God in your own Words.

PRAYER:
God,
I confess that I have sinned against You, and I know that there is nothing I can do by my own efforts to change my condition. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood and died on the cross for my sins; And that He rose from the grave on the Third Day to grant me eternal life. I know You love me, God, and I love You. I place my faith and trust only in You to conform my heart to Your will; And to order my steps everyday, from this day forward. Thank You , Lord, for saving me.

  1. Wow, Marques! I am beyond impressed! I am beyond grateful that God presented you the opportunity to be a living example of Jesus’ great love for even a wretched sinner like this young mlady. This is a true testimony of a beautiful young lady: a captive of Satan set free by the blood of the Lamb! Amen!

Marques, you are truly an inspiration for the sacred cause of the Gospel and the lifelong fight.

I pray that Tosha will inspire others to come to the light, and that God will equip her with the wisdom, discernment, and the strength as she continually grows in her faith, standing firm against Satan.
    🙂
