A Good Place To Start: Pt. 2

This is Part 2 of a message that was preached by my uncle, Minister David Boyd, during a Youth service last summer.

A lot of people claim to know a lot of stuff today, but what they know is not what is right; And it is getting these folks in a world of trouble too.

I encourage you to plant yourself in the Word of God. In the classroom, at work, out in your community…this is where you have to demonstrate a fear of God, that’s the beginning of knowledge.

God’s Word says to honor your father and mother so that your days will be longer. We can shorten our life by not respecting God. When we respect God, we are going to respect other people and treat them right.

So what’s occupying your time? Who’s talking to you? When you’re online, what are you allowing to feed your mind? What’s getting into your heart?

There are so many voices and things pulling at our attention, and the only way we will be able to decipher what is right from what is wrong is to have a guideline.

I believe a lot of the issues we are seeing in our world are a result of young folks coming from homes where no one has taught them about Jesus and the Bible, and so the young folks are just going out making havoc.

Then again, there are homes where young folks are being instructed in the things of God and His Word, but the kids pull away from what is right. Please don’t pull away from God.

Young men and women, your generation needs you. Be a Daniel, Be a Esther, Be a Mary, Be a Joseph. Someone who will stand up and show others that young people can do what is right. I can be a model citizen, I can carry myself like I’m going somewhere in life.

Young people, to get something you have to give something. We live in a society where many youngsters want to get-get-get, but we have to give. Many young people want their parents to just give-give-give to them, but the youngsters have to give something too. Old folks used to say, “if you want this particular item, you’ve got to be obedient.” Many parents don’t set any requirements for their kids, so they end up with some spoiled kids who’ve been given everything with no responsibilities. It creates a jarring reality once the kids grow up and get into the real world.

Right now, is the training ground. Home and church are the training ground. Don’t give the kids everything they want without having them earn it. We don’t want to kids to grow up, not get what they want, then knock someone in the head to take what they want…then where will they end up? One way or the other we are going to listen to somebody.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; And with that knowledge we have sense enough to know that we don’t want to go to jail. Godly knowledge helps us to stay away from bad situations.

It’s time to let this Bible speak.

Let it speak in your life, and don’t fret about what negative people say about you. They talked about me when I first got saved. I was called names, and sometimes those words hurt my feelings. Words do hurt sometimes, because there is power in words. That doesn’t give us the license to retaliate in anger. So if negative people start talking ugly to you, the Word of God is going to show you how to conduct yourself and keep your integrity. If people talk smack to you, let them talk. There may be some times where you may have to shed a few tears, but God will give you a true friend that you can confide in and who will pray with and for you.

I assure you that the same people who are talking smack about you, are watching your life. They are checking you out to see if you truly have the faith that you say you have. So they are challenging you, but don’t fail the challenge. You can defeat that giant with the Word of God, by hiding the Word in your heart.

No matter whether you are at work, at college, at home, are just simply out in the community…somebody’s watching you, somebody’s got a camera ready to snap a picture or record your actions. Their watching your life. They need a guide.

Never believe that what you do doesn’t mean anything, because you can influence others whether that influence be good or bad. So your life can help put somebody on the right path. They may not tell you, but they are watching. They’ll say to themselves, “That guy or that girl, I know they’ve been tested and tried, and he’s/she’s standing strong. How can I do it?” and that person may come to you, and ask you how you made it. This will be your opportunity to share the Gospel with them.

Maintain your character and reputation. A Godly character and reputation is very important.

You’ve got to have a good place to start; And it begins with knowing Jesus. It begins with finding out who Jesus is.

If you are reading this and do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, I would like to extend this invitation to you to receive the gift of salvation today. You can do so by praying and truly believing the prayer below, or by praying to God in your own Words.

PRAYER:
God,
I confess that I have sinned against You, and I know that there is nothing I can do by my own efforts to change my condition. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood and died on the cross for my sins; And that He rose from the grave on the Third Day to grant me eternal life. I know You love me, God, and I love You. I place my faith and trust only in You to conform my heart to Your will; And to order my steps everyday, from this day forward. Thank You , Lord, for saving me.

When we accept salvation, God saves us immediately, and makes us fit for entrance into Heaven, however some changes God will empower you to make easily, while making other changes will be a process that may take months or even years to make. Regardless of your situation, I assure you that the Lord loves you more than you could ever comprehend, and He will be with you every step of the way.

Pray, study God’s Word and ask Him to give you revelation of what you are reading. I also pray that the Lord will direct you to a true Bible teaching, Jesus loving church, where you can have the support of other believers.
