On The Subject Of Homosexuality

This post was inspired by a conversation I recently had with a new believer, who sincerely needed some answers. While I am addressing homosexuality here, all sin is wrong. Stealing, lying, murder, arrogance, taking bribes, racism, drunkenness, sex outside of marriage between a man and woman, etc are all sinful in God’s eyes.

God loves ALL people, no matter how bad we’ve been. He does not love the sinful things we do. I have had homosexual classmates in school, and have worked with homosexuals in the workplace. I have always treated these folks with the kindness due to them as creations of God, in hopes that God would provide the opportunity for me to witness the Gospel to them and see them delivered from this lifestyle and brought into the kingdom of light.

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

The Bible gives two purposes for sex: Pleasure between a man and woman within marriage(I Corinthians 7:3-5) 8 Procreation(Genesis 1:27-28)

The pleasure from sex is for those who accept the responsibility of bearing and raising children. So, even if you might not have kids, let that be up to God. But we should not avoid that responsibility intentionally.

1. God prohibited all sexual activities outside of a lifelong commitment, and hated divorce – this teaches us God wants humans to have a sexual relationship with family in mind. Obviously children are part of the equation and the lifelong commitment is so they would have a permanent family. (NOTE: This also partially addresses why abortion is a sin.)
2. God prohibited all sexual activities that inherently can’t bear children. Any sexual pleasure that purposefully avoids children (whether homosexuality, masturbation, etc) misses the purpose of sex and it’s sin.

In short, the principle is that we follow God’s design for sex (one man and one woman, for life in marriage) and let Him decide if He wants to give us children or not. Therefore, any sexual activity before you are ready to have children is sinful, as it misses the purpose.

The spiritual battle between God and Satan must also be mentioned. Genesis 1:26-27 lets us know that God created man and woman in His own image. God has great compassion for human beings. Satan has been in opposition with God, since the evil one sought to pull a hostile takeover of Heaven and was cast down to earth. Any principle that God establishes, the devil will seek to corrupt. The devil wants to corrupt God’s plan for sex, and stop as many humans from being born as he can.

Other scriptures: Romans 1:21-28, I Corinthians 6:9-10, Galatians 5:19-21, I Timothy 1:8-9, Jude 1:7-8,

Matthew 19:4-6
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The two above scriptures informs us that all of us were born with a sin nature, so in the manner that there are people who are more easily susceptible to things like alcoholism or having a hot temper…Yes, there are people who quite possibly have been born with a homosexual tendency.

As is the case for all sinful tendencies, while a person may have been born with a preference towards homosexuality, they do have the free will to desire to change. Jesus Christ died on the cross to redeem all of us from our sinful ways. Through the power of God’s Spirit, homosexuals can be delivered from that lifestyle if they truly want to be.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Titus 2:7-8, 11-12
7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

As “born again” believers, we must remain in prayer and rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to aid us in separating our hatred of a person’s sinful deeds from us being able to demonstrate Godly love for the person themselves. We MUST NOT bully, harass, or demean homosexuals. While it is true that there are many members of the LGBTQ+ community who are proud and happy with no desire to change…It is those individuals who are struggling because they want to be delivered, but the shame of continuing to fall back into homosexual acts is causing them to consider suicide(these are the ones whom we must not push further away from receiving their deliverance via salvation).

The greatest and most effective Christian witness we can give to our homosexual coworkers, classmates, neighbors etc… is us living a life of integrity ourselves. While contributing to a gay marriage ceremony or Pride Parade would NOT be wise…as it would signify us condoning the lifestyle; We do need to treat others the way we would want to be treated.

It is important that we pray that the Lord’s Spirit would convict homosexuals of their lifestyle, to the point that their hearts would be softened such that they will be receptive to the Gospel of Salvation. If asked where we stand on this subject, our answer must be seasoned with grace while we yet respond that we stand on what the Bible says.

I have a cousin, who lived as a lesbian for over 20 years, but one day she yielded to the voice of God, and was delivered from that lifestyle. Now, she preaches God’s Word and tells the unsaved that what God did for her He can do the same for them, if they make Jesus their choice.

I pray that this post has helped you the reader.

Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

II Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

John 6:37, 40
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

If you are reading this and do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, I would like to extend this invitation to you to receive the gift of salvation today. You can do so by praying and truly believing the prayer below, or by praying to God in your own Words.

I confess that I have sinned against You, and I know that there is nothing I can do by my own efforts to change my condition. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood and died on the cross for my sins; And that He rose from the grave on the Third Day to grant me eternal life. I know You love me, God, and I love You. I place my faith and trust only in You to conform my heart to Your will; And to order my steps everyday, from this day forward. Thank You , Lord, for saving me.

  1. Beautifully written!! I pray that this post will touch some lives–both of people who need to repent of sexual sins and receive the Lord’s forgiveness, and of people who need to repent of hatred and hostility toward that group of sinners who need the Lord’s forgiveness and also need to learn how to live with your compassion and gentleness. J.

  2. Beautiful post! And I so agree that we should never bully and mistreat homosexuals and it’s a shame that many who call themselves Christians mistreat them. And I also agree that we must set a good example for all people by the way we live instead of pointing fingers and telling them that they’re doing wrong. That only further alienates people from Christianity, I believe.

    1. Hi, Cherie! Thanks for commenting and for following my Blog. I’ll checkout your Blog also.

I just wanted to add a little more context for my readers:

There are many people out there with no desire to change, and that’s their choice. Christians will only be held accountable for sharing the truth of God’s Word with the unsaved and DID we practice what we preached our own selves, when we stand before Jesus Christ someday.

If a homosexual had been molested as a child or they just started experimenting with that lifestyle at some point, and are now struggling because they want to change but can’t in their own strength…I don’t want to be that Christian whose harsh words pushed them away from Jesus, or worse pushed them to commit suicide.

This is why it is vitally important that every believer be sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as He directs us on the level of sternness or gentle compassion to exert when witnessing the Gospel to individuals.

  3. I believe that when we persist in sin, the sins grow. While all sin is bad, because sin is acting against what you know is right, people, out of sincere desire to be better, can struggle against sinning, praying for strength. **I’ve noticed something, and I think I’m certain. When a person in sinning, and making excuses or legitimizing the sin, there’s a little smiling/smirking thing in their expression, like something living through them, thinking through them. I think it’s evil.

In reference to your above comment, you said:

“I’ve noticed something, and I think I’m certain. When a person in sinning, and making excuses or legitimizing the sin, there’s a little smiling/smirking thing in their expression, like something living through them, thinking through them. I think it’s evil.”

There are many people out there, who sadly, have been overtaken by demonic forces. (See Mark 5:1-20 and Matthew 12:43-45 KJV) In a case like this the possessed person cannot free themselves from these sinful practices…The demons must be cast out by a genuine Christian who is operating under the power of the Holy Spirit. The formerly possessed person must then ensure that they commit themselves to accepting Christ as their Savior and then learning to grow more spiritually in applying the things of God to their daily life, otherwise the evil spirits will return in a greater number.

Below are two post that God inspired me to write. They don’t address people who are possessed, but I do talk of things that hinder people from serving God, and how we can adopt a different mindset:

  4. Good evening Marques,
I wholeheartedly apreciate your gentle yet bold approach to the controversal topic of homosexuality. It breaks my heart to see that the church treats the LGBTQ community as wild beasts who are incapable of changing. We are the first to cast stones and get angry at these people, and do not allow them a chance to receive the Gospel out of compassion. Today’s church views them as the worst people in the universe, and that is why so many depart from the faith.
I heard from the great vine that Lil Nas X released the Satan video last year because many Christians were condescending and attacked him for being qeuer throughout his life. What do you think this says about the very people who are called that exemplify a Christlke lifestyle? We shout Jusus in the rooftop, yet we callousy beat our neighbors with Scripture and harsh words like a lion devouring its prey. I am not saying it was right for Nas X to sell the shoes or make the video. My main concern is how we treat homosexuals. It’s one thing to rebuke something that is toleraed in society, but to tear down and condemn someone who may be a future child of the light.
Keep doing what you are doing, Marques. Keep shining God’s light to this dark world.

    1. Thanks for your comments, Maia.

As believers, all of us must never loss sight of the fact that we are to love all people while hating sinful actions.

When sin runs rampant, many professing Christians allow their human anger to take priority over listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit on how best to witness to the unsaved. If we stay prayerful and attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, He will always inform us of when to be stern and when to be gentle.

Often times the best way to reach a person, is to simply live a Godly, caring, integrity-exemplifying life before them.
