Soul Ties

I Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This verse says something significant; just as our body can be damaged, so can our soul as well. But the writer goes on to say that his prayer is that all three parts of us; spirit, soul and body would be preserved, so that you don’t allow things to get in you and distort the purpose of God.

Now, we do halfway Ok with our spirit, because we get born again, then the blood of Jesus is applied to our life and our spirit is made brand new, but when our soul(mind, will, emotions, imagination, and intellect) is not kept up; we start getting into bitterness, strife, and depression(that is not of a physiological nature). Now we wouldn’t be haphazard about someone trying to break our leg, so we’ve got to start taking our mind, will, emotions, imagination, and intellect very seriously, because what the enemy wants to do is get us snagged with a soul tie.

We are created as a spirit, soul and body, and the real battlefield is our soul realm. This is why Psalm 25:1 says, “Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.”; And this passage goes on to say that if we do this, then we don’t have to be ashamed. But if we don’t lift up our soul to the Lord, and allow Him to deal with those areas in our minds where we are holding on to bad things that have happened to us, If we do not go to God about these things, and we keep holding on to them, then our mind can become distorted. In the natural world, if we break our arm, and it is not set right, then our arm will be limited for the rest of our life, even though the pain is gone.

A lot of people don’t think they have any active soul ties, because they don’t feel the immediate pain. We need to see how crippled that thing really is. Everything that’s broken, or not healthy/set right doesn’t hurt.

A soul tie is the reshaping of your soul, forming either a Godly or more commonly an ungodly attachment; Brought about by intense or intimate interaction, where a controlling interlock or hook is formed, causing you to do things that you really don’t want to do. It’s called unwilled actions.

Referring back to Psalm 25, David had had an intense and intimate interaction, and he knew he had to go to God with it, before it destroyed him. He asked the Lord to crate in him a clean heart.

A soul tie mimics sickle cell. Sickle cell anemia is when an individual is born, and their cells are shaped like a hook/sickle. So normally cells would be like an almost circular shape, and just flow through the bloodstream normally with no problem, however if they are shaped like a hook, something happens and they get snagged and it causes paint to the person.

I once had an acquaintance, who found themselves in a cult-like church for many years. They physically removed themselves from the church, but the hurt feelings still remained in this person’s heart and mind. Sometimes we walk out of situations, however we fail to get these situations out of our heart and mind.

We can get out of a situation, but if we don’t let God wash us, and sometimes He has to break us, because we’ve already been broken; And sometimes we won’t go to God, or go to an elder, or go to a counselor. Sometimes there is a level of brokenness in our life, and God has to come in and fix that thing.

If we don’t realize that certain things are soul ties, we can be five years out of their presence; And still smell something that destroys your mood for weeks. You could be ten years out of a person’s presence, and still have a bitterness because of what happened. And the most dangerous thing about a soul tie is that its just like being in bondage. A soul tie is when that person is long gone, but you are not free of the connection that you formed, so it is influencing your direction and your speed.

Jesus wants to set us free. This is why He said:

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Jesus will remove the other person’s yoke, but we have to come to Him for help. Breaking free of a soul tie may not occur after just one prayer, it may take some time. We may have to have the partnership of pastor and a licensed professional.

Now there are some good soul ties For example, perhaps someone was a member of a loving church with a caring Pastor, but their God ordained life assignment called for the person to move to another city or state. While the person can no longer attend the church, they still consider their prior pastor as their Spiritual Father or Mother. This is a true Godly soul tie.

Jesus said:

John 14:30
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

Our goal and our testimony needs to be that you and I would stay in the presence of God. We want to pray so much and stay in God’s presence, so that we can say the same thing We want to be able to say with certainty, “Yes, the enemy may show up, but he doesn’t have any hooks in me.”

II Timothy 2:24-26
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

For people who have gotten entangled: in sin, a circumstance, or with people; what has happened is that the enemy has yoked them into a soul tie. Some of us want to be around certain people so bad that we reshape our whole personality. I come against that in the name of Jesus!

Don’t reshape yourself to attempt to please people. Sir/Ma’am, you reshape your personality to try to please a mate, then get married, and when you get tired of pretending to be someone that you are not, you’re going to have a bad situation. I encourage you to always be who God created you to be, and that is when you will feel true happiness.

When you get free of these soul ties, the enemy won’t be able to come along and change your mood and pull you off course. There is a freedom that you get when you finally break free of ungodly soul ties.

Lord, we Thank You for this open door to lift our soul up to You. We have decided that we want to be just like You. We want to be able to say, “The prince of this world cometh, but he doesn’t have any hooks in us, because any area where our flesh, our attitudes, or any of that has been wrongly connected to somebody; We want You to set us free. We thank You for burning through the bondage, and destroying yokes, because of the anointing. Let Your power rest upon us, in Jesus’ name. Amen!

    1. Yes, Ms. Oneta. Soul Ties are a very powerful factor in why so many people find it so difficult to get out of abusive relationships; And also why individuals, who’ve been taken advantage of by corrupt church leaders, find it so hard to trust God and truly sincere believers.
