A Pastor friend of mine preached this sermon, at my church, a few months ago.
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
In this world, we live according to time. There is 24hr. in a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days in a year. The Bible tells us that there is a time for all things:
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Everything in this realm is done by time. All of us have this time, and regardless of what we may think or how we may feel, we will run out of time. The one thing we can do is use the time we have been given to tell God, “Thank You” for our time, and bring glory to His name.
I am so glad that the God that we serve is merciful. He’s kind and He’s loving. So as we examine our text, from Ephesians, we find that Paul is telling us that our enemy has a certain time. Satan’s time is going to eventually run out.
The believer who lives the spirit controlled life, can be assured of getting into spiritual warfare, so Paul gives us instructions on how to win the war by suiting up for battle. For our human limitations put boundaries on our ability to fight in a spiritual battle. With this armor, we have the ability to win the fight, and to hold our position in God. Paul reveals the importance of spiritual preparation, along with the truth about our enemy. So while the battle has already been won, and Satan’s power has already been broken, through the: death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Paul gives us the six necessary pieces of armor that God has equipped us with to resist and overcome our enemy.
Paul does not give us a list of schemes and tactics that Satan uses against us, however the passages are clear that when we follow all of the instructions faithfully, we will be able to stand…regardless of what the enemy does.
As a child of God, who is suited up, we will be able to stand our ground.
God considers deception an abomination, so a lying tongue is one of the things that is despicable to God. So we want to always keep ourselves girt about with truth.
Our spiritual heart is one of our most vital organs, and in order to prevent evil from penetrating us, we are instructed to put on the breastplate of righteousness. We are told that this righteousness is not the righteousness of works, but the righteousness of Christ.
Jesus said, “I came that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly.” Aren’t you glad that we serve a God that has all power in His hands! Aren’t you glad that we serve a God that has power over the enemy! Aren’t you glad that we serve a God that is able to keep you in the palm of His hand, even in the midst of all of life’s storms!
So in warfare, we have to prepare ourselves. We have to be prepared for the obstacles that the enemy will throw in our path. It doesn’t matter what the devil tries to do. He can try to trip you up, but as long as you’ve got your spiritual armor on, you will win.
We are then told to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, which means we can take the fight into the enemy’s territory. We need to be aware of his traps. The evil one will try to trick us. Everything that glitters is not good for us. The devil will make things look good, He will make it feel good, He will make it sound good. But I’m so glad that when we commit ourselves to serving God faithfully, the Lord will keep us aware of our enemy’s trickery
Often times, when the storms of life start blowing, many of us find ourselves consumed by doubt. We start doubting that God can heal us, We start doubting that God can make provisions for our bills to be paid; so we are instructed to take hold of the shield of faith, in order to guard against Satan’s fiery darts of doubt.
In the passage, Paul goes on to say that our faith should be in Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith, so the helmet of salvation protects our head. The head is the house of the mind, which is when it has grasped the Word, it will not receive any false doctrine. So without the helmet of salvation we have no hope of fighting the enemy’s doctrine. Without the helmet of salvation, our mind is incapable of discerning the truth.
The enemy will plant lie after lie, so I want you to know that we have to study God’s Word, line by line, precept by precept, then the devil can’t do anything to us. If the devil shows up , we have to speak the Word. When he tells us that we can’t do it, tell him that I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.
Paul then instructs us to take hold of the sword of the spirit, which is God’s Word. All of the other pieces of armor are for defensive use, however it is with God’s Word that we can fight back against the evil one. When Satan attempted to tempt Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus used the Word to stop the devil in his tracks. We must follow Jesus’ example.
Finally, we are advised to pray in the spirit. Prayer is how we draw strength from God.
Without prayer and reliance on god, our fight is a waste of time. This armor is our hedge. This is how God protects us.
Our enemy walks about, as a roaring lion, but God has given us power to overcome the enemy; All we have to do is activate it. Call on God, and put on the whole armor of God.
No matter what challenges life brings our way, God will keep us. God will protect us…24-7. That’s the kind of God we serve. He made us a promise. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Stand on God’s Word.
He will keep us: 24hr. a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year: And after that throughout all of eternity.

Because of His great love for men and women, it is God’s desire that none of us be destroyed by Satan’s trickery, nor by the sinful pride that resides within us. The only way we can secure victory over the devil, and become the true persons we were meant to be is by recognizing that we truly need God in our life. God loved all of us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us. You can receive Jesus into your heart by either praying in your own words, or by praying and truly believing the prayer below:
PRAYER OF SALVATION:
Lord, I acknowledge that I have sinned against You. I now ask You to forgive me of my actions. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, and rose again on the third day, so that I could have eternal life. I now invite Jesus to come into my heart, and guide my life from this day forward. I thank You, Jesus for saving me.
When we accept salvation, God saves us immediately, and makes us fit for entrance into Heaven, however some changes God will empower you to make easily, while making other changes will be a process that may take months or even years to make. Regardless of your situation, I assure you that the Lord loves you more than you could ever comprehend, and He will be with you every step of the way. Pray, study God’s Word and ask Him to give you revelation of what you are reading. I also pray that the Lord will direct you to a true Bible teaching, Jesus loving church, where you can have the support of other believers.
