Loving The Unlovely

ROMANS 12:16
Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

In the aforementioned Scripture, Paul gives us a good dose of compassion, humility, and service, all packaged into God-given emotions of love.

For many of us it’s not easy to associate with those who are considered less-than-perfect people.

Many years ago, evangelist Mike Adkins wrote a story about moving across the street from “Norman,” a man who was considered the town eccentric. He was strange, dirty, and a recluse. Over time, God called Mike to reach out and befriend the man, and not only that, but to bring him into his home and treat him like family.

IF AND WHEN YOU AND I ARE PLACED IN THE SAME SITUATION AS MIKE. WHAT WILL WE DO?

Love overcomes all differences between people.
Love calls us to live in harmony with others, setting aside our own desires.
Love is humble and compassionate toward those who may not look like us, talk like us, dress like us, and live like us.

FRIENDS, LOVE HELPS US SEE BEYOND OURSELVES AND REALIZE THAT IN GOD’S EYES WE ARE EQUALS.

Heavenly Father, thank you for teaching me to love and for giving me a perfect example through Jesus.

  1. Good mornin Marques, you have a post with a good message here. You have hit the nail on the head with your post.
I have difficulty interacting with religious-minded folks who don’t really accept righteousness as a free gift though. There’s a lot of labels for these types of people nowadays, and in Jesus’ day, they were called Pharisees.

Keep up the good work my brother.

    1. Thanks, Lee. Pride is such a vicious poison.

There is this horrible “self-made man/woman, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” mentality that exists in the world; And like you said it existed in the hearts of the Pharisees, as well as in the heart of many professing believers.

My grandfather used to sing a song called, “I Can’t Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand”, and this is the mentality we should have. We can’t do anything without God’s grace, If He doesn’t approve of something then we should have no part in it, Consistently relying on Him to give us direction. Not because He id a dictor and we are robots, but because we truly love Him, and we choose to trust His guidance.

It’s not about what we have done, but because of what Jesus accomplished at the cross and His resurrection. Yes, we are teh rightousness of
