Have You Ever Had A Feeling of being Forsaken? (Psalm 22:1-2)1
In his book The Screwtap Letters, C. S. Lewis records an imaginary conversation between a senior devil and a junior devil as they discuss how to properly tempt a Christian.
Brothers and Sisters, there is a training program for all things.
The two devils desired to destroy the believer’s (you and I) faith in God. “Be not deceived,” the senior devil says to the junior. “Our cause is never more in jeopardy than when a human looks around upon the universe in which every trace of God seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been “FORSAKEN,” and still obeys.”
Brothers and Sisters, the Bible gives us many examples of people who acted with faith despite their feelings of abandonment.
1. Abram felt that God’s promise of an heir had gone unheeded:
Genesis 15:2-3 But Abram said, :Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” (3) Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offsprings; indeed one born in my house is my heir!”
Do you feel ignored on your time of troubles?
Read Psalm 10:1 Why do You stand afar, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble?
2. Job’s troubles were so great that he thought God might even kill him
Job 13:15 Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him.
3. Jesus from the cross cried out:
Matthew 27:46 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
In each instance God was shown to be faithful:
1. Genesis 21:1-7 Isaac is Born
2. Psalm 10:16-18 Confidence in God’s Triumph over Evil
3. Job 38:1 The Lord Reveals His Omnipotence to Job
4. Job 42:17 Job’s Repentance and Restoration
5. Matthew 28:9-20 The Risen Lord
Brothers and Sisters, Satan may try to tempt you and I to think we are forsaken, God is always near. He never forsakes His own. “God has said,
Hebrews 13:5 I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
You and I can boldly say,
Hebrews 13:6 “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear.
Heavenly Father, although clouds and darkness sometimes shroud me, I know that You are close by my side. Thank You.
Accept Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ today. Today is the day of salvation. Now is the accepted time. You may not have tomorrow. Have a Blessed Day.
