Walking In the Spirit

Galatians 5:16-18
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

The only consistent way to overcome the sinful desires of our human nature (the flesh) is to live step-by-step in the power of the Holy Spirit as He works through our spirit.

SHALL NOT is a striking promise. Walking each moment by faith in God’s Word under the Spirit’s control assures absolute victory over the desires of our sinful nature.

The potential of the FLESH energized by Satan in the life of you and I, the Christian should not be underestimated. Given free rein, the flesh will direct our choices, making us do what we know we should not do. This inner conflict between the flesh and the Spirit is very real, but there is considerable disagreement as to its precise meaning.

Some believe that flesh here refers to a “sinful nature” continuing after salvation, while others view it as simply the physical flesh and its natural tendencies. Others focus on the “fleshly” or “worldly” habits and patterns that continue after justification. Although the precise meaning of flesh is unclear. Apostle Paul’s intent is plain. The desires of our flesh are at odds with what the Holy Spirit desires for us; to be free from sin.

WE ARE NOT PRODUCTS OF OUR CIRCUMSTANCES BUT OF OUR CHOICES.

  1. Great post Marques. After salvation, your inner man, your soul, gets not only forgiven of its sin but transformed. The soul has no more desires to sin but the flesh which is a reference to our body, still gets satisfy with sin and desires it greatly. Not until we resurrect with our spirit body does that sinful desires goes away.

  2. “WE ARE NOT PRODUCTS OF OUR CIRCUMSTANCES BUT OF OUR CHOICES” maybe we have played the victim and got pity from those around us but playing the victim with the one who knows our heart will not get us anywhere – we can’t repent if we don’t accept that we often make flesh based choices – great post

  3. Called to share God’s abundant blessings, I said to a Christian sister, “I don’t want to know about spiritual warfare.” Um…didn’t take long for the Lord to let me know we are all warriors in a spiritual warfare. Thankfully, He gave me strength in my weakness, increasing my trust in Him even more. God is so mighty and so powerful, and He never fails us! You tackled a heavy subject with God’s truth. Thank you.
