6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
In today’s society, each of us, young and old alike find ourselves challenged by various obstacles.
As young people, you are confronted by things such as: the desire to fit in with other kids, being bullied, and the pressure to perform well in your academics. Allowing your minds to dwell on these obstacles for too long can lead to sad feelings.
Today, I am here to encourage you and tell you that there is an answer to all of your problems, and that answer is prayer.
When you face problems in life, you know that you can go to your parents, grandparents, or whoever takes care of you. You have the confidence that they are going to listen to your problems and offer a solution, because they have demonstrated in the past that they love you by: spending quality time building a loving relationship with you, giving you food, shelter, clothes, teaching you right from wrong, and encouraging you to pursue your dreams.
Likewise, God wants to build a loving relationship with you, as well. One of the key ways this is done is through prayer. Along with studying the Bible, prayer is how we and God communicate with one another. This is also how we learn about God’s plan for us, and those around us.
Jesus instructs us in, Matthew 6:33, to seek God first, and that everything else that we need in this life will be supplied to us. Though it is wonderful to have family and friends to pray with and for us, there may be times that they may not be available for us to speak with, however God is always available 24hrs. a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to listen to our concerns.
Because God has created each of us with our own unique personalities, talents, and abilities, He knows all of our strengths and weaknesses. He knows ahead of time what the results will be of us either making the right or the wrong decisions. It is not His will that we go through life attempting to handle all of our problems on our own, because ultimately this will lead to many worries and stress. For this reason the Word of God tells us to cast all our cares on the Lord for he cares for us.(I Peter 5:7)
Things that we can pray for:
Pray according to God’s will:
I John 5:14-15
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Pray for forgiveness:
I John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Pray to be delivered from Fear:
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
Pray for people who are mean to us:
Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
Prayer for those in authority over us
1 Timothy 2:1-2
2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Praise God Through prayer:
I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
As we study the Bible, and communicate with God through prayer, not only does the Lord change our circumstances for the better, but He also changes us on the inside for the better.
Every answered prayer that He delivers, only builds up our faith in His goodness. When the Lord instructs us to wait, we must understand that he is either teaching us to have patience, or He knows that we are not quite ready to receive what we are asking for. And when He tells us ”No” to some requests, we must have the faith to know that God has something better in store for us down the road.
Hannah prayed, and God blessed her with a son.
The three Hebrew boys prayed, and the Lord stood with them in the fiery furnace.
Daniel prayed, and God delivered him safely out of the lion’s den.
God is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore, so what He did for the men and women of the Bible, He will do the same for us.
No matter what comes your way, as a child of God, the solution is just a prayer away. Call to the Lord, Have faith in Him, and know that the Creator of the Universe will never let you down.
