Make The Choice

Deuteronomy 30:15 See I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.

Just as Moses challenged the people to determine what path they follow, you and I are also challenged. One way leads to life because God’s blessings rest on it. The other way leads to death and evil because God’s curse rest on it.

Brothers and sisters, Jesus in his ministry challenges you and I to determine what path we take. Brothers and sisters in 2017:

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. (14) because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

In Mark Twain’s classic Huckleberry Finn, Huck faced a difficult choice. He could follow the accepted cultural of his time and allow his friend Jim to continue in slavery. Or, he could shake free those constraining chains, helping Jim escape to freedom.

In Moses final message, he admonished Israel that God had given them a choice with great consequences. One path would lead to life and blessings. The other would bring death and disaster. Moses reminded them that the choice was not difficult to understand. Today I tell you the same. The choice is yours and it is not a difficult choice to make. Follow Jesus in 2017 or be left behind.

Brothers and sisters, by embracing God’s path for life, life flows from the heart that loves Him. Keeping my (your) heart turned toward Him protects you and I from long-term damage and destruction.

Brothers and sisters, a guarded heart learns to listen to Him through His Word, Spirit, and people.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.
Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

This verse (Psalm 51:10) is very significant in two areas. Repentance and Creation. The verb translated creation is the same one used in Genesis 1:1 and refers to what only God can do. Just as David, you and I should ask that our hearts be renewed, restored, and transformed. God is the only source of such renewal.

Brothers and sisters, ask God to show you how to live. Turn from your vain and troublesome detours that could wreck your life. Choose today 11 January 2017, the hard but rewarding road of walking with Him, feeding on His Word, and embracing His promises.

Accept Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, today. Today is the day of salvation. Now is the accepted time. You may not have tomorrow. Salvation is a free gift. Have a Blessed Day.
