One Great Task: Go Tell Somebody All You Know About Jesus

Matthew 10:32
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

II Timothy 2:1-10
2 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory._______________________________________________________

II Timothy 2:1
Friends, in light of the defections of others (2d Tim 1:15), Paul incites Timothy to be faithful. Paul calls for Timothy to BE STRONG IN THE GRACE THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS. This I believe is the way you and I should also be. Our emphasis should be on the strength of Christ and not on ourselves or our own power. If you and I trust in ourselves, we are doomed to fail.

II Timothy 2:2 FAITHFUL MEN:
Timothy is commanded to commit Paul’s teaching to FAITHFUL MEN. I believe you and I are commanded to do the same. Faithful men and women then have the responsibility of teaching others. This would be a basis for an endless chain of Christian discipleship, the teaching of Christian teachers (Read Matthew 28:18-20).

AMONG MANY WITNESSES: Discipleship may occur in large/small groups, or one-on-one encounters.

Three illustrations are given for faithfulness:
1. SOLDIER: The Christian walk is often presented as spiritual warfare. Effective service calls for singleness of purpose.
2. ATHLETICS: The Greek games were important and demanded strenuous training (Read I Corinthians 9:25). No competitor could be CROWNED unless he competed in accordance with the rules. Here is the reference is to a victor’s wreath given in an athletic contest. Faithful believers (you and I) will receive a victor’s crown, not the royal crown which belongs to Jesus. Friends, spiritual activity must be conducted within the directive of biblical faith and doctrine. TO DEFECT FROM TRUE DOCTRINE IS TO LOSE YOUR REWARD. II JOHN 7,8.
3. HARDWORKING FARMER: Conscientious, hard labor is necessary before a farmer can enjoy a bountiful harvest. LAZINESS cannot be a character trait of faithful Christians.

II Timothy 2:8 REMEMBER:
Just as Timothy, you and I are commanded to REMEMBER Christ’s resurrection. THE SEED OF DAVID emphasizes Jesus/ humanity and the fact that He would fulfill the promises God had given to David (Read II Samuel 7:11-16)

RAISED FROM THE DEAD: This emphasizes that our SAVIOR lives today seated at the right hand of God the Father.

II Timothy 2:9 WORD OF GOD:
Whether through a church tract, a book, a Bible, or a simple statement, HUMAN circumstances cannot confine the WORD OF GOD. God uses His word to accomplish His purpose. There are numerous examples of people who were antagonistic to God’s truth but who surrendered their lives to God when He kept after them. (Read Paul’s conversion in Acts 9:1-15). YOU AND I MUST NOT HIDE THE GOSPEL, BUT INSTEAD LET IT GO FORTH UNCHAINED IN SPITE OF OUR OWN LIMITATIONS.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, there is no better time than right now to ask Him to come into your heart. As we start a new year, you can make a fresh start in life with Jesus Christ by your side.
