One Great Problem: All Have Sinned

Romans 3:9-12
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Romans 3:19,20,23
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 3:9 BETTER THAN THEY: This question means “Do we Jews have an advantage over the Gentiles?” (Read Romans 3:1). In other words, “Is there anything (you and I) we can cling to for protection?” THE ANSWER IS NO, SINCE ALL ARE UNDER SIN.

Romans 3:10-12 To prove that all are under sin apostle Paul quotes without formal introduction a number of different verses from the Old Testament. The collection of citations can be divided into two parts.

The first half is made up of negative statements emphasizing humanity’s deficiencies (vv.10-120
The second half exposes human depravity (vv. 13-18).
DEPRAVITY means moral corruption; wickedness.

Romans 3:10 This is a quotation from Psalm 14:3 that says, “There is none who does good.” Paul uses the word RIGHTEOUS because he is discussing the righteousness condition of all people (Romans 1:18).

Brothers and sisters, none of us can be JUSTIFIED on the grounds of our (his/her) own righteousness before God.

Romans 3:11 People (you and I) do not understand spiritual truth.

1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

At best, people are satisfied with externals, with being “religious.”

Romans 3:12 Turned aside: This means turning away from God’s way.
UNPROFITABLE: This is, useless to God or His good purposes.
GOOD: apart from God, people lack true goodness and kindness. Some believers are gracious and kind, however these acts ultimately have no value because they do not come from believing hearts that seek to glorify God (read Romans 1:21). EVEN a “good person” can be rebelling against God and seeking his or her own welfare through goodness.

Romans 3:19 Whatever the law says refers to vv.10-18.
All the world, whether Jewish or Gentile, stands in guilty silence before God.

Romans 3:20 A legal term used of the defendant in a trial, JUSTIFIED means :declared righteous.: NO ONE will be declared RIGHTEOUS by doing what God requires in the law. This is confirmed by the fact that the law was not given to JUSTIFY sinners but to expose sin v.19.

Romans 3:23 God revealed to people how they should live, however NO ONE can live up to what God’s perfect way demands.
ALL HAVE SINNED: No one can live up to what God created us to be; we (you and I) FALL SHORT of His glory. You and I cannot SAVE ourselves because as SINNERS you and I can never meet God’s requirements. Our only HOPE is FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST.
