11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
As I read this particular passage I am reminded of that old hymn, “I’m A Soldier In the Army of the Lord”. Yes, there is great truth to the verses of that song.
We who are saved will attest that we do indeed find ourselves on the frontlines of the battlefield daily, waging war against Satan, his demonic forces, the influences of this corrupt world, and the sinful desires that dwell within each of us.
The question is when will Jesus finally do something about all of the wickedness of this world? The answer is of course found in Revelation 19. It is here that we see the final stage of the Great Tribulation, where the Antichrist has gathered together a massive army in an attempt to annihilate Israel.
It is at this point when the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will occur, and the great news is He won’t be coming alone.
Yes, the awesome news is that every Raptured saint and Heavenly angel will return with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, as part of His army, and if you are currently a born again Christian who maintains your faith in Jesus Christ, you will be included in this army.
The things that once divided people in this world, will not apply when on that great day. There will be men and women of various races, nationalities, ages, backgrounds, social statuses, political parties, etc… in Heaven’s army. We will all be united by our love for Christ, and our desire to see Him rule and reign.
During His first earthly journey, Jesus came as a lowly servant paying the penalty for the sins of mankind. When Jesus comes again, He will be coming as a conquering King. The first time He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. When He comes again, He will be riding on a mighty white horse. The first time, Jesus arrived on the scene as a little baby, born in a manger. When He comes again, He will arrive on a cloud with All Power and All Glory!
In the world as we currently know it, Kings, presidents, and other world leaders usually give orders, and send out their troops to do all of the fighting, while the leaders are safe in an undisclosed location. At Christ’s Second Coming, the army will merely be spectators, as we watch the Commander In Chief of the Universe single-handedly defeat the Antichrist and his forces.
II Thessalonians 2:1-10
2 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
As we look at the passage above, we can already see people beginning to fall away from their faith in the God of the Bible. Various other religions are treated with much more reverence than Christianity. We see more and more people indulging in self-gratification, and choosing not to consider the eternal consequences of their decision to reject God. Making matters worse, there are so many church leaders who are being enticed by fame & fortune, and are diluting the Word of God in an effort not to offend anyone.
We who are wise will commit our hearts to serving the Lord, and sharing the true, undiluted Word of God with the lost…that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.
What an honor and privilege it will be for each of us to observe, mounted on our own personal white horse, the defeat of this corrupt world system, and Christ’s establishment of His Millennial Kingdom.
If we stand with Him now, we will ride with Him in Victory!
